I have even seen cases where to firmware versions of the same drive used completely different flash "filesystems", or basically the way that flash memory blocks are accounted for and correlated with the virtual LBA addresses. unlike with conventional hard drives, solid-state drive behaviors can completely change with their firmware version. It's not uncommon to buy a drive and pick apart its behavior. a lot of what we do with those depends on reverse engineering of that model. there are some designs and controllers that very few people have developed specific and closely guarded secret solutions to working with. There are a few things to consider with ssd. My average rate on a conventional spinning disk for the last 2 years is $576 (excluding return media), while that fits right into the donut hole in the middle of the range solid state drive recoveries almost never cost. When I do them, I see two major price ranges, the under $400, and the over 800 ranges. In my experience, SSD repairs either tend to be much less expensive or much more expensive than regular drives. Yes there are a few shops that work on a standardized rate basis, but that's quite rare. Solid state drives are so different from hard drives, that there really isn't a standard rate. I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with this. if I want to get it diagnosed by other company) in terms of recovery success rate? As in, is it worth it to just get it recovered by TTR because that would allow for the least number of initializations (as far as I understand it).Īny other thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Is it possible to quantify roughly the risk of continuing to get the SSD initialized by other companies (i.e. Has anyone heard of this company or is there another one that is well known in the DMV area?ĭoes that $550 number sound right? Are there any other reputable firms that would do a standard corrupted data sector recovery for less? I understand that there could be a wide price range for "corrupted data sector recovery" - this appears to be a 'routine case' as in it is at the bottom of TTR's service costs for SSDs (the only metric I have). They quoted me $550 for the recovery under their "standard service." Their diagnostic results were (perhaps unsurprisingly) corrupted data sectors. I spoke to a couple of data recovery firms in the area and chose one that seemed somewhat reputable (TTR Data Recovery) to do a free diagnostic as they were local and allowed me to drop off and pick up the SSD with no fee before/after the diagnostic.
